摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for compensating a coordinate measurement device. SOLUTION: The beam steering mechanism 12 provided with the exemplificative gimbal of the laser tracker 10 includes the carriage 14 which rotates with zenith rotation (rotates in the perpendicular plane to the reference plane) mounted on the base 16 which is azimuth rotating (rotating in the reference plane). The axes 18 and 20 of the zenith and azimuth mechanism rotate for turning the laser beam to a desired direction. The self compensation method determines four pay load parameters TX, TY, RX and RY for describing the position and direction of the laser beam regarding the gimbal point of the tracker by the two reference targets 22 and 24 (one is not shown).
