PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining a stainless steel plate with an extrusion-molded shape member of aluminum alloy by friction stir welding. SOLUTION: A side structure 2 of a car body 1 is composed by joining aluminum alloy extrusion-molded hollow shape members 30 and 40 by friction stir welding from the cabin side. On the car outer side of the side structure 2, stainless steel plates 10 and 20 are joined with abutment parts of the hollow shape members 30 and 40 by friction stir welding from the cabin side. After the abutment parts of the hollow shape members 30 and 40 are joined by friction stir welding, cabin side surface plates 31 and 41 of the hollow shape members 30 and 40 are connected to each other by a junction member 51. Due to presence of the stainless steel plates 10 and 20 on outer side surfaces of the car, formation of flaws on the car body surface can be restricted. Since aluminum alloy is used except for the stainless steel plates 10 and 20, light weight and low cost are achieved in manufacture. The stainless steel plates, as well as the hollow shape members, are abutted on each other or overlapped with each other to be joined by friction stir welding. Between the stainless steel plate and the hollow shape member, heat insulation material may be disposed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
