<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which the luminance of a virtual image of an observation object is improved and the virtual image suppressed in luminance unevenness can be formed. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a light source 1, an optical element 3 which converges the progression direction of the light emitted from the light source, a diffusion element 4 which alleviates the luminance unevenness by diffusing the light emitted from the optical element 3, and a display element 5 which generates an image and in which the generated image is illuminated by the light emitted from the diffusion element in this order, in which the light source 1 consists of a plurality of the light emitting elements 1a to 1c, and the plurality of light emitting elements are arrayed on a line in a lateral direction, and the optical element 3 emits the exit light from the one light emitting element so as to be paralleled relating to the vertical direction and not to parallel the exit light from the one light emitting element relating to the lateral direction.
