PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of obtaining excellent image quality without being affected by a diffraction phenomenon even when a molding optical element has periodic stripes without being polished. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus for forming an object image on an imaging surface 6, where a light receiving element is arranged, by an imaging optical system 7. the imaging optical system 7 is equipped with the molding optical element 1 manufactured through a manufacturing step in which the periodic stripes 2 are formed on an optical surface. When high-brightness object light whose brightness value exceeds the saturation sensitivity of the light receiving element enters the imaging optical system 7, an unwanted light image 11 by the stripe of the optical surface based on the high-brightness object light is formed in the area 10 of the object image related to the high-brightness object light when it is presupposed that the optical surface does not have the stripe 2, on the imaging surface 6.
