<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element that can suppress changes in colors or gradation depending on viewing angles, and to provide a polarizing plate having the optical element, and a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element 10 comprises a plastic base film 8 and a diffusion layer 9, wherein the diffusion layer 9 has an internal scattering body 12 that selectively scatters light at a short wavelength and is specified to have pencil hardness of 2H or higher at 500 g load. When the optical element is used as disposed in the front face A1 side of a liquid crystal display device, a color difference Δu'v' defined below upon displaying colors near eight test colors specified as the test colors by CIE1974 is specified to 0.05 or less: the color difference is obtained from the chromaticity coordinates (u<SB>0</SB>', v<SB>0</SB>') of CIE1976UCS observed from an opposing position straight to the front face A1 of the liquid crystal display device and the chromaticity coordinates (u', v') observed at an observation angle θ changed by ±60° in the horizontal or vertical direction from the above position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
