PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for producing an optical element which can leave a molding in a prescribed mold of a pair of molds during demolding and the optical element which makes surface and back easily identifiable. SOLUTION: As regards the optical element producing apparatus 1, a curing energy light transmitting mold is used as at least one of a pair of molds 2 and 3, an energy curable resin is packed in the space between the opposite surfaces of a pair of the molds, and curing energy which passed through the molds is applied to the resin to produce the optical element 101. The opposite surfaces 5 and 5 of a pair of the molds 2 and 3 are composed of an optical function part forming surface 6 forming the optical function part 102 of the optical element 101 and a non-optical function part forming surface 7 forming the non-optical function forming part 103 of the optical element 101. The non-optical function part forming surface of one mold is formed to be smooth, and the non-optical function part forming surface of the other mold is formed to be rough.
