PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polylactic acid monofilament, by which the polylactic acid monofilament having physical properties capable of being applied to industrial uses and having a good filament-producing property can be produced, while solving a filament-whitening problem which has been a problem in conventional processes for producing polylactic acid monofilaments. SOLUTION: This method for producing the polylactic acid monofilament, comprising cooling melt-extruded polylactic acid resin in a liquid bath and then drawing the extruded product at at least two steps, is characterized by simultaneously satisfying (a) to (f). (a) The weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of the polylactic acid resin: 150,000 to 350,000; (b) the drawing temperature of the first step: 63 to 98°C; (c) the draw ratio of the first step: 2.0 to 6.5; (d) the drawing temperature of the second step: 78 to 108°C; (e) total draw ratio: 5 to 9; (f) winding rate: 30 to 500 m/min.
