A display device whose user can control the appropriate display operation corresponding to the user's situation (intention, visual condition, physical condition, and so forth). For example, the user wears a wear unit of eyeglass type or head worn type and views an image of any one of various types on a display section immediately in front of the eyes. Thus, a shot image, a reproduced image, a received image, and the like are provided. Information on the movement of the user or the physical situation of the user is acquired for the control of the display operation of any of various operations such as on/off of the display, display mode, and source change, and the intention or situation of the user is judged from the information. According to the judgment result, appropriate control is carried out.
