The semiconductor chip (100) has base surfaces formed on opposite sides, which are connected with each other by side surfaces (13,14). A semiconductor layer sequence (1) with an active area (10) for producing electromagnetic radiation is arranged between the base surfaces and the side surfaces. A reflecting layer (21,22,23,24) is applied on each of the base surfaces and the side surfaces, which reflects back, in the semiconductor layer. A part of the electromagnetic radiation generated in the active area, and the reflecting layer has an opening (3) for outlet of the electromagnetic radiation. An independent claim is also included for a device with a radiation emitting semiconductor chip.
