PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine capable of preventing a key-off shock. SOLUTION: The engine is provided with an electric supercharger supercharging fresh air flowing through an intake air passage. The engine is provided with a control means controlling operation of the electric supercharger and the control means is provided with an engine operation switch outputting operation command to the engine by operation of a driver. The control means reversely rotates the electric supercharger during a predetermined time at timing when the engine operation switch is turned off (step S106-S109). Since gas in the passage flows from a downstream side to an upstream side of the electric supercharger in an intake air direction of the intake air passage when the driver turns off the engine operation switch, fresh air is inhibited from flowing into a combustion chamber. Large pumping loss can be generated after the engine operation switch is turned off to reduce engine speed and combustion in a cylinder can be slowed down.
