PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that an abnormal sound (noise) is generated when a sheet material is bitten between a pair of rollers which carry the sheet material in a dry and low-humidity time, and when the sheet material is rubbed with a carrying guide member, when there exists a large curvature passage during the carrying of the sheet material. SOLUTION: This sheet material feeder comprises a feed cassette 41 for storing paper sheets 5, a humidifier 82 for humidifying the paper sheets fed from the feed cassette 41, the carrying guide member 80 for guiding the paper sheets 5 passing through the resist rollers 44 to a carrying belt 31, and a vibration detector 82 for detecting the vibration of the carrying guide member 80. The humidifier 82 humidifies the paper sheets 5 in the feed cassette 41 when the vibration of the carrying guide member 80 is at a predetermined value or greater. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
