A method of producing cushioning dunnage comprises the steps of providing a cushioning dunnage producing machine (10), providing a roll (20) of paper sheet material (202), the roll of paper sheet material having a first end (204) at a radially innermost location (206) and a second end (208) at a radially outermost location (210), feeding the first end (204) of the paper sheet material (202) into the cushioning dunnage producing machine (10), and producing cushioning dunnage (30) with the cushioning dunnage producing machine (10). A cushioning product (30) comprises an elongated sheet of paper (202) having a longitudinal axis, the sheet of paper (202) twisted about the longitudina! axis into a helix (212), the twisted sheet of paper (202) crumpled along the longitudinal axis. A combination comprises a cushioning dunnage producing machine (10) having a crumpler (106), a roll (20) of paper sheet materia! (202) having a first end (204) at a radially innermost location (206) and a second end (208) at a radially outermost location (210), the first end (204) fed into the cushioning dunnage producing machine (10), the crumpier (106) drawing the paper sheet (202) from the roll (20) and crumpling the paper sheet (202) into cushioning dunnage (30).
