<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a buried object detector capable of preventing breakage and hazard of other buried object by previously detecting target buried object even if the buried object position in a working diagram is incorrect, when underground cable way construction or the like is performed. <P>SOLUTION: This buried object detector comprises a portable transmitter-receiver (cellular phone) 1, a radio repeater 3 disposed near the ground surface, a burying identification sheet 6, and a radio IC tag 5 attached to the buried object such as an optical cable 6. The buried object detector transmits an detection signal as an electromagnetic wave from the portable transmitter-receiver (cellular phone) 1. When the radio IC tag 5 receives the detection signal relayed by the radio repeater 3, the radio IC tag 5 transmits, as the electromagnetic wave, a response signal including identification information when the detection signal is for the radio IC tag 5 itself. The radio repeater 3 displays the identification information and relays the response signal.
