PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video camera capable of achieving both of the reduction in time required for a directional discrimination and the sureness of stability in a discriminating operation. SOLUTION: A high-frequency AF estimation circuit 26a detects a high-frequency AF estimation value based on image data showing an object field. The position of a focus lens 14 is alternately shifted by a driver 18c in a close direction and an infinite direction. When the number of the shifting times of the focus lens 14 is exceeding a threshold M or N (N>M), the focusing direction is predicted by a CPU 28 based on the present position of the focus lens 14. In a camera shake state, the threshold M is noticed, In a non camera shake state, the threshold N is noticed. A direction counter C1 is updated based on the high-frequency AF estimation value detected with the shift of the focus lens 14. When a counted value by the direction counter C1 satisfies an established condition, the focusing direction is defined based on the counted value. At the focusing operation, the focus lens 14 is shifted in the predicted or defined focusing direction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
