PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide nano-oxide particles which are uniformly dispersed in a general-purpose resin matrix and sufficiently reduced in cohesion among particles since uniform dispersion of fine particles at a nanometer level in the field utilizing a metal oxide to make the refractive index of an optical material high. SOLUTION: The nano-oxide particle are protected by a polyvinyl monomolecular film having a connective functional group on the particle surface. The method for manufacturing the surface-protected nano-oxide particles comprises performing vinyl polymerization in the presence of a solvent comprising oxide particles, a connective functional group-containing vinyl monomer, and a dispersive medium, the above dispersive medium being not less than 70 wt.% based on the entire solvent.
