PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artist name display method and a device preventing that a same artist is treated as a different artist when a featuring artist name is recorded and that the artist cannot be identified when the same artist names are listed. SOLUTION: A first artist name retrieved by artist retrieval is recorded in a first buffer memory, an artist name retrieved next is recorded in a second buffer memory, the artist name recorded in the first buffer memory is compared with the artist name recorded in the second buffer memory, when characters or symbols indicating a prescribed featuring artist exist in the artist name, except for the characters or the symbols and a part following them, when both artist names are same, it is discriminated as a common artist, other than the characters or the symbols indicating the prescribed featuring artist and the part following them is recorded as the common artist in a display memory displaying the retrieved artist name.
