A washing machine having a steam generating unit is provided to reduce power consumption and to reduce a manufacturing cost by generating steam using a tub and a washing heater. A washing machine having a steam generating unit comprises a steam unit(133) having a washing heater(135), a water level sensor(137), a water supplying unit having a washing water supplying unit(142), a steam supplying unit(146) and a select valve(144). The steam unit is installed at one part of a tub(131). The washing heater heats different amount of water and generates steam. The steam unit has a dividing unit by changing a lower part of the tub. The water level sensor is formed at one part of the steam unit. The washing water supplying unit is connected with the tub. One part of the steam supplying unit is communicated with the washing water supplying unit and the other end of the steam supplying unit is communicated with the steam unit. The select valve opens and closes a path to selectively supply water to the washing water supplying unit and the steam supplying unit. |
