<p>A device for reducing power consumption of a multi-mode portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to confirm whether the terminal is connected to a UMA(Unlicensed Mobile Access) network only when a voice service or a data service is carried out, thereby preventing power consumption in accordance with a periodic AP(Access Point) scanning process. After service connection, it is confirmed whether the service connection is conducted by using heterogeneous networks(301,303). If the heterogeneous networks are not connected, an AP is scanned(305). If the AP in accordance with the AP scanning process is sensed, the heterogeneous networks are connected through the AP(307,309). If the AP is not sensed, connection to a mobile communication network is maintained(311). If predetermined time elapses after the connection to the mobile communication network is maintained, the AP is scanned to connect to the heterogeneous networks.</p> |
