PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mounting machine for surface mounting of components capable of effectively holding an electronic component by a holding member, without causing mistake by accurately obtaining a moving amount up to the upper surface of the component and a method for mounting the surface mounting component. SOLUTION: This mounting machine for surface mounting component mounts electronic components on a printed board c in a mounting unit n by attracting and holding the component b contained in a container t1 of a tape t of a tape feeder 20, by the holding member 11 of a mounting head 8. In this case, the method for mounting the surface mounting component comprises the steps of lowering the holding member toward the upper surface of the tape of the tape feeder, detecting the change of the attracting pressure for attracting the tape to the member, obtaining moving amount of the member when the detected pressure becomes a predetermined suction pressure, and calculating the height on the upper surface of the component contained in the container of the tape, based on the moving amount. |
