A head slider is provided to improve the information recording density of a disc device by reducing the interval between a recording layer of a disc and a recording reproducing element of a head slider. A head slider comprises rail surfaces(4,7) having a protective layer such as DLC(Diamond Like Carbon) on the surface, step bearing surfaces(5,6) positioned lower than the rail surfaces, and a negative pressure groove surface. The negative pressure groove surface is positioned lower than the step bearing surfaces and doped with ion. The stepped surface between the step bearing surfaces and the negative pressure groove surface, and the stepped surface between the step bearing surfaces and the rail surfaces are selectively doped with ion. The injected ion, such as fluorine ion or nitrogen ion, lowers surface energy on the injected surface.
