APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ACCESS POINT'S CERTIFICATION OF CIPHER KEY IN PORTABLE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for confirming the encryption key of an AP(Access Point) in a portable terminal are provided to confirm whether the encryption key of an AP is a hexadecimal format or an ASCII format and to output the encryption key according to the confirmed format. A portable terminal(100) which executes pairing with an AP(130) comprises a short range communication part(120), an MPU(Micro-Processor Unit)(110), and a message deciphering part(112). The short range communication part(120) receives radio signals from the AP(130), and transmits/receives necessary messages for pairing, and the MPU(110) directs the short range communication part(120) to receive a response message containing the information of the AP(130). The message deciphering part(112) deciphers the response message, received from the AP(130), according to the control of the MPU(110), acquires the encryption key of the AP(130) and the format information of the encryption key, and provides the acquired format information to the MPU(110). The AP(130) consists of a local communication unit(134), a controller(132), a memory(136) and an operational button(138).
