<p>The device (17) has a guide shoe (18) arranged on an elevator car (16) or on an elevator counterweight. The shoe is moveable relative to the elevator car or the counterweight respectively upon contact with hoist way equipment e.g. console (6). The shoe is arranged on a linear guide (21) on the elevator car or the counterweight. The linear guide permits the shoe to move relative to the elevator car or the counterweight respectively. The shoe is arranged on a carriage that is movable on carriage rails, which are connected with the elevator car or the counterweight.
