VOD SERVICE SYSTEM BASED ON PEER TO PEER COMMUNICATION

A P2P(Peer-to-Peer)-based VOD(Video On-Demand) service system is provided to keep a service quality even if the number of connectors is increased and keep the proper service quality in an asymmetrical network such as ADSL(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) by distributing load of a server side efficiently. A service controller(100) controls a process for obtaining a list of peers having video contents from a service server and receiving the contents selected by a user from at least one of the peers. A contents receiver(510) outputs contents data according to a real-time playback speed by receiving and buffering the contents data from more than one peer, and a player(610) plays the contents data received from the contents receiver. The player includes a streaming receiver(511) receiving different blocks dividing the contents from the peers and a contents converter(513) sequentially assembling/outputting the different blocks received through the streaming receiver. A content storing part(400) stores the contents and a storage controller stores the received blocks to the contents storing part in a block unit. The service controller includes a peer information transceiver(110) transmitting information, which represents that the contents are completely received, to a service server.
