A method and a system for loop-free ad-hoc routing are provided to enable localized route restorations and to easily add nodes to existing routes. A source node, which receives an RREP(Route Response) and initiates an RREQ(Route Request), establishes a locally notified sequence number for a given destination(202). The source node inserts the local sequence number in an RREQ message(204). Then the source node broadcasts the RREQ message(206). The source node receives at least one RREP message(208). Based on the received RREP message, the source node forwards data packets to the next hop node for the destination(210).
