An ECU(Electronic Control Unit) for a vehicle is provided to perform CAN(Controller Area Network) communication temporarily by adding a terminal resistor to a CAN communication line automatically when terminal resistance is unmatched between the ECUs by monitoring a terminal resistance value of the CAN communication line. Two communication terminals(81,82) are connected to a terminal port(80) of a main ECU(A). A switching part(84) is connected to two communication terminals by interposing a terminal resistor(83) to connect the terminal resistor to two communication terminals in parallel. A CPU(50) monitors a voltage level of both ends of two communication terminals, and connects or disconnects the terminal resistor from two communication terminals by switching on/off the switching part according to the monitored voltage level. A collector of the switching part is connected to one side of the terminal resistor connected to a first communication terminal and an emitter is connected to a second communication terminal, and a base is connected to the CPU. The CPU connects the terminal resistor to both ends of two communication terminals by switching on the switching part if the monitored voltage level is lower than a preset voltage level. A clock generator(70) generates a pulse to decide reference timing of the CPU.
