A method for detecting failure of a wheel speed sensor is provided to prevent an accident by recognizing the failure of the wheel speed sensor. A wheel speed sensor generates a pulse signal having a pulse width which is inversely proportional to a speed of revolution of a gear to be rotated by a wheel. A method for detecting failure of the wheel speed sensor includes an identification process and a decision process. The identification process is performed to identify an accelerating state and a braking state of a vehicle by using a change of a vehicle speed(306,308). The decision process is performed to decide a breakdown of a rotor having the gear or a partial breakdown of sawteeth of the gear in a periodic low speed state when the vehicle is not in the accelerating state and the braking state(310,312,321,322,324,326). |
