An apparatus for removing particulate matter is provided to heat a particulate material collecting plane with a small amount of energy by restraining dissipation by restraining gas flow by arranging a heat insulation material closely to the particulate material collecting plane and arranging a heating element between an aerated filter material and the heat insulation material. An apparatus for removing particulate matter includes an aerated filter material made from an adiabatic ceramic fiber and formed at a channel of exhaust gas containing particulate matter to collect the particulate matter. A heat insulation material is arranged closely to a particulate matter collecting plane of the aerated filter material. A heating element is arranged between the aerated filter material and the heat insulation material to heat the particulate matter collected by the filter material to burn the particulate matter. An on-off valve is formed to control inflow of exhaust gas into the aerated filter material. In case the on-off valve is opened, the aerated filter material collects the particulate matter without being heated. In case the on-off valve is closed and the aerated filter material limits inflow of gas, the aerated filter material is heated by the heating element to burn the particulate matter collected by the aerated filter material to remove the particulate matter.
