<p>A method for operating a gateway and a device comprising a gateway are disclosed. Speech parameters are received in the gateway from a mobile station. The gateway determines that the speech parameters have been produced by a first speech coding method. The gateway further determines that a terminal equipment performs speech coding in accordance with the speech parameters and that the speech parameters should be relayed as such.
