A method for providing a service to a subscriber of a mobile network operator comprising the following steps: requesting (S1) a service transaction by said subscriber (3) by means of a mobile device (4) at a service terminal (5) to receive a generated authentication challenge (C), calculating (S2) a response (R) by said mobile device (4) of said subscriber (3) depending on credentials issued by said mobile network operator (2) and the received authentication challenge (C), submitting (S3') the calculated response (R) to the service terminal (5), verifying (S4') the submitted response (R) by using the credentials issued by said mobile network operator (2) and the submitted authentication challenge (C), and performing (S5) the requested service transaction if the verification is successful.
