An apparatus and a method for providing dynamic route in a telematics terminal are provided to service an alternative route according to traffic information by guiding a bypass in advance before reaching the branch of route. A telematics terminal includes a controller(50) and a display unit(71). The controller searches a minimum route between departure and destination positions, sets the searched route as a main route, generates bypass search request data according to traffic information from a traffic information module(30), transmits the generated data to a telematics center through a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) module(20), receives the bypass search result data from the telematics center, stores the received data, reads out the bypass search result data before reaching a specific branch, and sets a minimum route between specific branches as the bypass. The display unit displays the current position of a vehicle detected by a GPS(Global Positioning System) module(10), and a main route and the bypass.
