A liquid crystal display device and a method of fabricating the same are provided to improve excellent display characteristics without an increase in manufacturing cost by including a reflection area and a transmission area in a pixel area. A liquid crystal display device comprises a pair of substrates(2,4) disposed to be opposite to each other, a liquid crystal(6), a pair of quarter-wave plates(50,51), a pair of polarizing plates(86,87), and a pixel area. The liquid crystal is sealed between substrates and aligned almost vertically to the substrate when a voltage is not applied. The quarter-wave plates are respectively disposed at outer sides of the substrates. The polarizing plates are respectively disposed at outer sides of the pair of quarter-wave plates. The pixel area includes a reflection area provided with a reflecting plate having a reflecting surface and for reflecting light incident from one of the substrates, and a transmission area for causing light incident from the other of the substrates to be transmitted toward one of the substrates. Pixel electrodes have multiple electrode units which are electrically connected. Thereby, viewing angle characteristics increase.
