An apparatus and a method for improving image resolution are provided to solve a problem that quality of a final image is not sufficiently high, complicated operations are performed, and large calculation resources are required at a low speed. Outputs of blocks(3-5) of an RGB-to-HSV space converter(1) are connected to inputs of resolution improving blocks(9-11), and outputs of the resolution improving blocks(9-11) are connected to inputs of memory blocks(6-8) of an HSV-to-RGB space converter(2). An output of a two-dimensional minimum filter(12) is connected to an input of a zero order two-dimensional interpolator(14). An output of the two-dimensional maximum filter(13) is connected to an input of the zero order two-dimensional interpolator(15). An output of the zero order two-dimensional interpolator(14) is connected to the first data input of a multiplexer(20). An output of the zero order two-dimensional interpolator(15) is connected to the second data input of the multiplexer(20). The difference between outputs of the zero order two-dimensional interpolator(14) and a two-dimensional bi-linear interpolator(16) is transmitted as an input of a module calculation block(17). The difference between outputs of the zero order two-dimensional interpolator(15) and a two-dimensional bi-linear interpolator(16) is transmitted as an input of a module calculation block(18).
