A portable terminal for displaying an image using focus information and a method thereof are provided to save a user the trouble of using the volume keys or the navigation keys to confirm an ROI(Region Of Interest) among a photographed image by directly enlarging and displaying the ROI on the basis of focus information when the photographed image is displayed. If the user of a portable terminal selects image display mode through key input or a main menu, a control part drives image display mode(S71). If a request to display a photographed image is generated according to the user's key input(S72), an image control part judges whether the image information of the requested image contains focus information(S73). In case focus information exists, the image control part displays the image of an ROI corresponding to the focus information through a display part(S74). In this case, the image control part enlarges and displays the image of the ROI. In case focus information does not exist, however, the image control part displays the requested image as it was(S75).
