An optical disk drive and a method of controlling the same are provided to stabilize servo control by ensuring sufficient servo control margin of a pickup module. An optical disk drive of controlling the same comprises a pickup module(208), and a servo control part(316). The pickup module forms a focus by irradiating laser on the surface of the recording layer of an optical disc. The servo control part, including a level detection part(406) detecting the level of the focus error signal, and a gain control part(408), corrects servo gains to make the recording servo gains follow the reproducing servo gains, where the recording servo gains of the optical disc are obtained on the basis of the level of at least one focus error signal.
