A method of filtering broadcast messages at a receiver in a wireless communication network, comprising: receiving a network broadcast configuration message including a broadcast message capability setting; when the broadcast message capability setting is set to disallow receipt of broadcast messages, remaining in a sleep mode when a broadcast message is sent; when the broadcast message capability setting is set to allow receipt of broadcast messages, receiving a broadcast message; applying one or more filtering criteria to the received broadcast message; processing the received broadcast message if it is not filtered out by the one or more filtering criteria as well as a corresponding apparatus. |
