A composition comprising various fresh medicinal herbs is provided to improve various dental caries, gingivitis and foul breath symptoms, clean the mucous membrane in the oral cavity, inhibit inflammation and bacterial growth and minimize side effects caused by antibiotics. A composition for cleaning oral cavity comprises 0.001-10 wt.%, preferably 0.1-1.0 wt.% of the extracts of fresh medicinal herbs including Curcuma zedoaria Roscoe extract, Lophatherum gracile Brongniart extract or a mixture thereof, and is formulated as liquid, paste, ointment or spray. A method for preparing the composition for cleaning oral cavity comprises the steps of: drying and pulverizing the Curcuma zedoaria Roscoe and Lophatherum gracile Brongniart; extracting the pulverized medicinal herbs with a solvent selected from water, C1-C6 lower alcohol, C1-C8 multivalent alcohol, C1-C8 ester, C1-C8 ketones, C1-C8 aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons and C1-C8 aldehydes for 3-5 days; and filtering, concentrating and freeze-drying the extracts of medicinal herbs. |
