An automatic warehouse is provided to improve storage efficiency by including at least a pair of transfer apparatuses for transferring articles to and from a rack including a plurality of shelves. An automatic warehouse(2) comprises at least a pair of transfer apparatuses. The transfer apparatuses transfer of articles to and from a rack including a plurality of shelves(6,7), the transfer apparatuses each including a plurality of vertically overlapped parts from a proximal side to a distal side, and attached to an elevation frame(16), and the elevation frame being elevated and lowered along a mast(14). In one of the transfer apparatuses, the parts being arranged from the proximal side to the distal side, in an order from lower to upper parts, and in the other of the transfer apparatuses, the parts being arranged from the proximal side to the distal side, in an order from upper to lower parts. The one of the transfer apparatuses is used for a shelf at the highest level, the other of the transfer apparatuses being used for a shelf at the lowest level.
