An apparatus and a method for detecting an interval in a karaoke machine are provided to recognize the interval condition of a song by a user through a microphone visually by receiving an external input signal. An apparatus for detecting an interval in a karaoke machine comprises an external input part receiving an external input signal, a frequency conversion part(21,23), a control part, and a display part. The frequency conversion part converts the received external input signal into a frequency signal, and converts an accompaniment signal corresponding to the external input signal into the frequency signal. The control part compares the frequency signal corresponding to the converted external input signal with the frequency signal corresponding to the accompaniment signal. The display part displays the interval condition of the external input signal according to the compared result. The external input signal is an audio signal of a song to be sung by a user through a microphone. The interval condition of the external input signal is displayed as one of the same, high, and low.
