PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce meniscus attractive force while preventing writing in an adjacent track in a discrete track medium and a patterned medium. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium and a magnetic disk device excellent in high density recording and high reliability are provided by forming a magnetic layer of a land part and a patterned part of the discrete track medium and the patterned medium in a cylindrical shell shape and a spherical shell shape having fixed film thickness and changing a height of a cylindrical shell shape protrusion and a height of a spherical shell shape protrusion from 5 nm to 30 nm according to a radial position.
