PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To forcibly release a brake shoe from a disc rotor during replacing work for the brake shoe. SOLUTION: In this railroad vehicle caliper brake device, a free piston 12 stops the flow of operating oil in a cylinder 21 during cancelling braking to adjust a brake clearance between the disc rotor 1 and the brake shoe. The device comprises a bypass line 50 connecting an upstream chamber 15 to a downstream chamber 16, and an opening/closing valve 60 for opening/closing the bypass line 50.
