PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder and an image forming device enabling the user to easily confirm the termination of the life of a sheet feed member. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder comprises a pickup roller 12 for feeding sheets S, a feed roller 13 installed on the downstream side of the pickup roller 12 and feeding the sheets S, and a retard roller 14 to which a torque in the direction reverse to the feeding direction for the sheets S is transmitted. When the sheets S are fed by the pickup roller 12, they are separated and fed by the feed roller 13 and the retard roller 14. The sheet feeder further comprises a retard holder 18 movable in the direction that the retard roller 14 is biased to the feed roller 13 and holding the retard roller 14 in the state that the retard roller is biased to the feed roller 13 and a photo sensor 28 for detecting the lives of the feed roller 13 and the retard roller 14 according to the moved amount of the retard holder 18.
