The method involves detecting vehicle with their speed in neighboring lanes. An average speed assigned to the lanes is determined from the speed of the vehicles. The average speed assigned to the neighboring lanes is compared with speed of the individual vehicle. A warning signal is generated in the lanes with intended track change of the vehicle, when the average speed varies around a preset value of the speed of the vehicle on the lanes. A range of tolerance is specified for speed difference.
