<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device, capable of performing discharge lamp replacement without a risk of electric shock in spite of simple wiring, and a luminaire using the same. <P>SOLUTION: Prior to supply of starting voltage to a discharge lamp 9, whether the discharge lamp 6 is attached to a socket 6 or not is determined based on voltage between input terminals 6a and 6b of the socket 6, and when attachment of the discharge lamp 9 to the socket 6 is determined, the starting voltage is supplied to the discharge lamp 9, and a power is supplied to the started discharge lamp 9 to maintain the lighting of the discharge lamp 9. When the discharge lamp 9 is extinguished due to failure, expiration of life or the like, and a change in the voltage between input terminals 6a and 6b of the socket 6 is detected, removal of the discharge lamp 9 from the socket 6 is detected based on the change in voltage between input terminals 6a and 6b of the socket 6, and a starting means 2 is stopped until attachment of the discharge lamp 9 to the socket 6 is detected again. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
