<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system in which wasteful discharge of a hydrogen gas is made less and in which a purge gas is made easily diffused in the atmosphere. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system A is constituted of a fuel cell 25, a gas piping 32b to circulate an unreacted hydrogen gas from the fuel cell 25 to the gas piping 32a, a valve 31a installed at the gas piping 32a, a pressure sensor 32 to detect the pressure in the gas piping 32a, a three-way valve 34a to communicate and shut-off between the gas piping 32b and the exterior, and a power supply system control device 50. Then, when the purge gas and water are discharged to the exterior by communication between the gas piping 32b and the exterior, the power supply system control device 50 is made to control an opening of the valve 31a so that a detected value detected by the pressure sensor 32 is retained to have a slightly larger value than that the atmosphere pressure has.
