PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing dipicolinic acid or its salt, which enables the achievement of excellent productivity and low cost and can be applied to the industrial production of the dipicolinic acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing the dipicolinic acid or its salt comprises a process for culturing a microorganism which has a spore-forming ability or has lost the spore-forming ability and has a dipicolinic acid synthetase gene transcribed under the control of a promoter acting before a spore coat protein deposition period in a spore-forming period, and a process for recovering the dipicolinic acid from the culture supernatant of the microorganism and/or a reaction aqueous solution.
