PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption without hindering smooth photographing. SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 has a power saving S-AF mode in which focusing is performed, when a release button 14 is half-depressed and a C-AF mode in which smooth photographing can be carried out by repeating the focusing during a photographic mode, irrespective of presence/no presence of half-depressing of the release button 14 to simplify the focusing in photographing as focusing modes. An AF control part 74 acquires an Ev value indicating subject luminance, by driving a subject luminance detection part 70, when the digital camera 10 is set to the photographic mode and compares the Ev value with the threshold of the subject luminance stored in a memory 68. Then, when the Ev value exceeds the threshold, the focusing mode is switched to the S-AF mode; and when the Ev value becomes lower than the threshold, the focusing mode is switched to the C-AF mode.
