PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element in which contrast variation at high-temperature storage is reduced. SOLUTION: The display element contains an electrolyte comprising silver or a compound including silver in a chemical structure between electrodes opposed to each other and performs driving operation of the electrodes so as to generate dissolution and deposition of silver, wherein a silver salt solvent is included in the electrolyte, and a metallic compound having a complex stability constant larger than the complex stability constant of the silver salt solvent and silver is contained in the electrode which is not the observation side.
