A topical composition comprising a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist, a stiffening agent and a release modifier. The stiffening agent comprises a fa tty alcohol, a fatty acid sorbitane ester, or a fatty acid glycerol ester, h aving a hydrocarbon chain containing 12 to 22 carbon atoms and having a melt ing point of about 45 to 750°C. The release modifier comprises a fatty alcoh ol, a fatty alcohol glycol ether, a fatty acid alkyl ester, a fatty acid gly cerol ester, or a fatty acid sorbitane ester, having a hydrocarbon chain con taining 12 to 18 carbon atoms and having a melting point of about -10 to 400 °C. Use of such a composition for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of a derm al or mucosal disorder, preferably an anorectal disorder associated with hig h anal pressure or anal sphincter spasm.
