PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back-washable membrane element allowing replacement of the membrane by reusing a thermoplastic resin filter plate, in case of breakage or deterioration of the membrane. SOLUTION: This membrane element is formed by attaching fine hole filter membrane 1 having nonwoven fabric of synthetic resin fibers as a support body, with an outer peripheral flat and smooth face 22 provided on the peripheral edge of the thermoplastic resin filter plate 2 and a demarcating flat and smooth face 23 demarcating the inside surrounded with the outer peripheral flat and smooth face 22 into at least two sections. A heating plate 3 corresponding to the shape of the flat and smooth face is made to abut on the flat and smooth face to form a recessed part. The temperature is controlled to be lower than the melting point of the nowoven fabric serving as the support body and higher than the Vicat softening temperature of the thermoplastic resin filter plate 2.
