An optical fiber tape unit comprising an optical fiber core having an outer diameter of 0.4 mm or more consisting of an optical fiber strand composed of an optical fiber, a primary coating layer and a secondary coating layer, and an overcoat layer formed around the outer circumference of the optical fiber strand, and a member for coupling a plurality of optical fiber cores arranged in parallel. Assuming that the overcoat layer has a Young's modulus E 1 and a cross-sectional area A 1 and the coupling member has a Young's modulus E 2 and a cross-sectional area A 2 , following relations are satisfied: E 1<= E 2 and E 1 A 1>= E 2 A 2.
